Barry Korb is the Founder and Master Baker of The Artisan Baker, one of South Africa’s leading artisan sourdough bakeries.
Inspired by his travels through Europe, the United Kingdom, and the United States, Barry trained under a French master baker and dedicated himself to mastering the art of traditional sourdough bread-making.
What began as a passion for authentic, naturally fermented bread grew into a thriving business built on traditional methods, simple ingredients, and an uncompromising commitment to quality. Today, Barry leads a bakery supplying artisan products to retailers and customers across South Africa while remaining true to the principles that inspired him from the beginning.
As an entrepreneur and craftsman baker, Barry shares insights on building a business from the ground up, the value of perseverance, and the importance of preserving traditional food craftsmanship in a modern commercial environment.
This July, Umhlanga Women Achievers is proud to support Girls Town, a place of healing, hope, and opportunity for vulnerable young people.
Their mission is to help mend the invisible wounds of children who have faced significant challenges, providing them with the care, guidance, and support they need to build brighter futures.
Our annual Shoe Drive is one of the most heartwarming initiatives on the UWA calendar. Through the generosity of our members and sponsors, the girls are taken shopping for their own pair of new shoes. Accompanied by their caregivers, they are given the special opportunity to choose the shoes they love themselves, an experience that restores dignity, builds confidence, and reminds them that they are valued and cared for.
